Joel was also the international television voice for regional La-Z-Boy Showcase Shoppes, spanning 12 years (1984 to 1996). Joel's voice is recognized in Canada, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and the Pacific. 1971 - Began radio broadcasting in Santa Fe, NM - KVSF-AM
1972-1974 - Continued in radio at KRSY-AM & KBIM-AM in Roswell, NM
1974-1978 - Began Television broadcasting at KOAT-TV in Albuquerque, NM
1978-1979 - Began full time production at Competitive Edge Advertising, a full service agency specializing in broadcast advertising and commercial production for automobile Dealerships.
1979-1989 - Went back into radio at KKJY-FM in Albuquerque, starting as on-air personality; then to production manager to program director to operations manager ultimately to station manager.
1989-1996 - Began as production manager at KRST-FM in Albuquerque, NM; went on-air doing afternoon drive; became #1 DJ in Albuquerque at KRST from 1992 to 1996; Named #10 most listened to afternoon personality in the U.S. by R & R Magazine.
1996-1998 - Moved to KTBL-FM, sister station to KRST, doing afternoons.
1998-1999 - Relocated to the West Coast. Did morning show at KKJG-FM in San Luis Obispo, Ca. Missed NM, so,
.....In September 1999, Joel came back to New Mexico and settled in Las Cruces, where he opened Ralph's Doghouse Digital Audio Recording making radio commercials and television voice overs; Partnered with Mike McGuire, member of the top rated country music group, SHENANDOAH, starting AudioLogoZ, making commercial jingles.
2003 - Began a morning show at KGRT-FM;
2005 - Won the New Mexico Broadcasters Association Radio Commercial of the Year for Pancake Ally diner;
2006 & 2007 - Won the New Mexico Broadcasters Association DJ/Morning Show of the Year for KGRT-FM
At the end of 2007, Joel retired from radio, but that didn’t last too long, as he returned to KGRT’s morning show in 2010, along with Patricia Valencia and “Great Country Mornings with Joel and Patricia.”
Joel finally retired in 2014 and started focusing on his commercial voice over career with Doghouse Recording.
